Profile

Dr. Sabbaghan is a Senior Instructor in the International Foundations Program at the Werklund School of education. He obtained his first PhD in English Language Teaching from IAU, Science and Research Branch and his second PhD in the field of Curriculum and Learning with a focus on Mathematics Education from the University of Calgary. Dr. Sabbaghan has been teaching ESL for the past 15 years and has been studying how native and non-native elementary school children learn mathematics for the past two years.

Research & Scholarly Activity

Dr. Sabbaghan’s research foci in ESL are mainly in the impact of various awareness and attention levels on the quality of L2 writing and the nature of complexity in task design. In mathematics education, his foci are on the influence of language in mathematical concept development and the impact of progressive complex tasks in learning.
