Graduate Programs in Education is organized around areas of shared teaching and research interests. Currently there are seven specializations with degrees arranged into research and professional programs. Students must select one specialization as a focus of their study upon application to the program.

Masters Programs

The Master of Education (MEd): Interdisciplinary is a course-based, microcredential pathway to achieve an MEd in Interdisciplinary Studies. Students may choose to complete two topics (4 courses/12 units) followed by a research topic towards achieving the MEd. This unique, flexible program allows for students to select from a variety of topics that are offered face-to-face, blended, and fully online. 

The Master of Education (MEd): Specialist Route is a 2 year course-based program that provides students with research-active and discipline-focused studies. Students will critically and analytically read research literature, carry out their own scholarship of teaching and learning in their organizations, and write and report on research using a range of academic writing genres.

The Master of Science (MSc) in either Counselling Psychology or School & Applied Child Psychology prepares students for further research and scholarship in their chosen field. 

The Master of Education (MEd) in School & Applied Child Psychology is a blended, course-based degree intended to prepare individuals for professional practice as a school psychologist or in applied psychology in school or community settings. This program consists of 51 credit units (17 half courses) and is designed to be completed in 3 years. 

The Master of Arts (MA) program is intended to prepare students for further research and scholarship in their chosen field. This program is delivered on campus with a thesis component. Graduates of this program elect to pursue an Education Doctorate (EdD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) to further their studies.

Doctoral Programs

The Doctor of Education (EdD) is a dissertation-based degree program designed for practicing professionals in education-related occupations and organizations.  The EdD program is focused on developing scholars of the profession who lead research informed and research active change and innovation in education.  A course of thesis-based master’s degree in an appropriate field is normally required for admission to our EdD program.   

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is intended to prepare scholars for careers in research and teaching in their chosen field.  This program is delivered on campus with a dissertation component.  A course or thesis-based master’s degree in an appropriate field is normally required for admission to our PhD program. 

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Counselling Psychology prepares individuals to develop the philosophical, theoretical, and research expertise in counselling psychology required of those who wish to offer effective psychological education and counselling and to work as counselling psychologists in a variety of public and private practice settings.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in School & Applied Child Psychology program prepares students to work as school psychologists or develop specialized knowledge of school and applied child psychology for use in school or community settings. Course content for the PhD program follows the accreditation guidelines created by Canadian Psychological Association standards for training.
