Director’s message

Barbara Brown The Werklund School of Education leads innovation by establishing researcher-practitioner collaboration through the Partner Research Schools (PRS) initiative. The PRS initiative is designed to create opportunities for faculty, schools and other community agencies to work together to design research focused on complex problems of practice. The aim is to foster collaboration among stakeholders in schools, school jurisdictions, and the larger community and to engage in research-active inquiry. Currently, there are nine school authorities that are formally part of the initiative including: Rocky View Schools, Calgary Girls’ School, Calgary Board of Education, Connect Charter School, Westmount Charter School, Calgary Catholic School District, Foothills School Division, Golden Hills School Division and Canadian Rockies Public Schools. We continue to work with and sign on with other school authorities.

Our website is designed as a connection point for PRS and medium for knowledge dissemination with the community. For example, many of our collaborative research projects are described on the PROJECTS page and show how partners work together to develop and enact rich inquiry projects. The EVENTS page is continually updated with information about meetings designed to gather PRS participants to discuss research projects and opportunities for grants. We will also continue to update information as plans unfold for our upcoming Partner Research IN Schools conference on August 24-25, 2017 at the MacEwan Conference and Events Centre at the University of Calgary.

I would like to thank Cynthia Prasow for her dedicated service and commitment to building the Partner Research Schools initiative and serving as Director from 2013-2016. As of January 1, 2017, I agreed to extend my leadership responsibilities as Director of Professional Graduate Programs to also include the role of Director for Partner Research Schools and Cynthia has been providing exceptional transition for the role. I look forward to continuing the collaborative work and partnerships already established over the past few years and would also like to invite any other school authorities interested in working with PRS and joining our professional learning network to contact me for further information ( for further information!
