Office of Teaching & Learning
The Office of Teaching and Learning provides leadership in the planning, design, development, implementation and evaluation of teaching and learning initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and student learning in the Werklund School of Education. Through this work, the Office of Teaching and Learning is helping to ensure targets of the Werklund School of Education's strategic plan are being met.
Dr. Jennifer Lock is the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning and specialization chair for the Learning Sciences in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. Dr. Lock is also the academic coordinator for three graduate certificate programs: eLearning, Assistive Technology for Learning in the Inclusive Classroom, and Transforming Teaching and Learning in a Knowledge Society. Her area of specialization is in Educational Technology. Dr. Lock's research interests are in the following four areas: 1) E-learning with a specific focus in distance education, online learning communities, and building capacity of online educators; 2) Technology integration in education and teacher education that involves designing learning in technology-enhanced learning environments, online collaboration, and one-to-one mobile computing; 3) Educational development in higher education; and 4) Change and innovation in education (teaching, learning and leading) with a specific interest in leading innovation in K-20 classrooms, schools and organizations, involving educational technology. Dr. Carol Johnson is the Werklund's Teaching and Learning Facilitator. She has a PhD in Educational Technology and an extensive background in online teaching and learning at the K-20 levels. Her diverse background includes teaching in Canada, US, and Latin America in the disciplines of pedagogy, technology, music performance and music theory. Carol's research interests include online technology for teaching, professional development for faculty in the area of educational technology, and learning music in the online environment.
Alison Lee is the Administrative Assistant in the Office of Teaching and Learning. She has worked as an ELL/EA with the Calgary Board of Education and as an Student Liaison for SAIT Polytechnic. She obtained her Bachelors of Arts (Sociology) from the University of Calgary. She enjoys traveling, camping and spending time with her family.
