Dr. Thomas’ research focuses on teaching and learning. Within this focus, her research interests include professional learning, leadership, engaging teachers as adult learners, teacher training, collaboration and group work, interdisciplinary learning, and partner research.

Dr. Thomas is currently a member of the Werklund School of Education’s Academic Engagement Task Force committee. In the past she served as a member for the Joint C2 Committee for Palliser Regional Schools where she worked closely with other teachers, board members, superintendents, and Alberta Education to address teacher workload issues to enhance teacher efficacy. She also served on the Professional Development Committee as an Alberta Teachers’ Association Representative (ATA).

Dr. Thomas was born in Saskatchewan but has lived in Calgary since 1989. She started teaching in K-12 education in 1998 and completed her Masters in 2011 at the University of Alberta. In Summer 2012, she enrolled in doctoral studies at the University of Calgary and completed her Doctorate in Education in March 2016. She joined the Werklund School of Education in Summer 2016 as a sessional instructor in the undergraduate and graduate programs. In Summer 2017, she accepted the position of instructor for the Werklund School of Education. She teaches graduate courses in leadership, professional learning, and interdisciplinary learning and various undergraduate courses in year one and two of the program.
