Jose Domene

Dr. José Domene immigrated to Canada with his family when he was a teenager and has a Mexican and Chinese cultural heritage. José joined the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary in 2018, having previously taught at the University of New Brunswick, and Trinity Western University in British Columbia. He teaches graduate courses in the counselling psychology EDSA and is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. He resides in Northeast Calgary with his partner, Melanie.

Research & Scholarly Activity

Dr. José Domene's research focuses primarily on the relational contexts of career development, particularly the career development of marginalized people and secondarily on issues in counsellor education; that is, how to prepare students to become competent counsellors and psychologists. Currently, Dr. Domene is involved in several projects focusing on understanding and improving the lives of newcomers to Canada; including newcomers who are international students, immigrants, and refugees.
