Profile

Dr. José Domene immigrated to Canada with his family when he was a teenager and has a Mexican and Chinese cultural heritage. José joined the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary in 2018, having previously taught at the University of New Brunswick, and Trinity Western University in British Columbia. He teaches graduate courses in the counselling psychology EDSA and is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. He resides in Northeast Calgary with his partner, Melanie.

Research & Scholarly Activity

Dr. José Domene's research focuses primarily on the relational contexts of career development, particularly the career development of youth and young adults. He also has an interest in counsellor education in the digital age; that is, how to prepare students to become competent counsellors and counselling psychologists in a field that is increasingly adopting new technologies to enhance practice. Currently, Dr. Domene is involved in several projects focusing on understanding and improving the future lives and careers of young people who have been marginalized in the workplace (see "current projects" for more information).
