Leadership in Engineering at annual awards dinner

Schulich School of Engineering celebrates student excellence and donor generosity

Recently the Schulich School of Engineering hosted the 23rd annual Student Excellence Awards Dinner at the University of Calgary's Red and White Club. Nearly 300 guests attended the event, which recognizes student excellence and celebrates the generosity of donors that have contributed to awards, prizes, scholarships and bursaries.

Every year, undergraduate students at the Schulich School of Engineering receive more than $5 million in scholarships and bursaries that are funded by donors in the community, including industry partners. The Student Excellence Awards Dinner provides the opportunity for students to meet the donors that are investing in their education.

"Our Schulich students are involved in countless clubs and teams outside of the classroom which develops their leadership skills beyond those of the classroom and our donors help make these experiences happen. We really appreciate our donors' support and thank them for their investment in our students." Bill Rosehart, Dean, Schulich School of Engineering.

This year's theme for the dinner was 'Leadership in Engineering.' The program included remarks from keynote speaker Mark Flint, Chief Executive Officer of APEGA, Dennis Frehlich, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AltaLink, who spoke on behalf of the donors, Oliver DesCoteaux, fourth-year President of the Mechanical Engineering Students' Association, who spoke on behalf of students, and Dean Bill Rosehart, who provided an overview of what leadership at the Schulich School encompasses.
