Congratulations to alum Sue Crawford (BSc’11, BN’13, MN’20) whose company ENABLE is one of ten 2021 finalists for What’s Next YYC, biennial awards created by the Trico Charitable Foundation in 2019 to celebrate and advance excellence in social entrepreneurship.

Crawford created ENABLE five years ago after she noticed a gap in community services for families affected by disability. During her graduate studies, she mobilized her experiences as an RN with Psychiatric Emergency Services at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and over a decade of experience as a disability support worker to start the social enterprise.

ENABLE is a win for families, clients with disability and students. By matching families affected by disability to post-secondary student support workers, students gain meaningful, part-time employment; families gain much-needed respite; and clients enjoy companionship, recreation and skill-building activities in the community with their support worker.

What’s Next YYC features two $25,000 jury prizes, a $25,000 audience choice award and another $25,000 the finalists share among themselves.

Show your pride for our nursing alum by voting for ENABLE for the audience choice award!

To vote, register for the free, virtual three-day ‘Pivot on Purpose Summit: Reimagining Business Models to Solve Social Problems’ on Nov. 18 to 20. The What’s Next YYC awards take place on Nov. 18 from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
