UCalgary seeks its next Chancellor to inspire and connect
For the past four years, Jon Cornish, a celebrated community leader and Canadian Football Hall of Famer, has served with distinction as the University of Calgary's 15th Chancellor.
As their term nears its end, the University Senate is now searching for the next individual who will inspire and share our story.
The Chancellor serves as a connector, ambassador and champion of the university.
In addition to chairing the Senate and participating as a member of the Board of Governors, this robust volunteer position entails numerous commitments, such as attending and presenting at institutional and community events. One of the most cherished responsibilities is conferring degrees at convocation.
The Chancellor also collaborates with the Senate and president in choosing recipients for honorary degrees and the Order of the University of Calgary.
"The ideal candidate for this position is someone deeply connected to the Calgary community, passionate about learning and discovery, and committed to education, research and students," says Senator and Committee Co-Chair Linda Thomas.
"We’re seeking an individual who can proudly tell our story to the world and be a positive force in championing Canada’s entrepreneurial university."
Cornish says being chancellor has been a profound experience that has "fundamentally shaped my perspective and character.
"The role offers unique opportunities to influence and inspire, and teaches invaluable lessons about leadership.
"To future Chancellors: embrace the learning journey, trust the process, and remember that your voice and presence matter deeply to the university community and beyond."
This is a call to those who feel driven to start something impactful for UCalgary and the community it serves.
The application process for prospective candidates is open to all. Interested individuals must submit a letter of intent and resumé by Jan. 31, 2026, for consideration. The process is confidential, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
