Field Experience I, EDUC 440: Students will engage in school settings through observation and assistance to explore the organization of learning in the school and the perspective of the learner and the teacher.

About Field Experience I

In Field Experience I, EDUC 440, students are not placed with partner teachers, but instead visit multiple classrooms to find out about life in schools.

  • 2 weeks in the Fall, first EDUC term
  • Students work in cohorts
  • Experience from K -12
  • Structured as ethnographic research inquiry into the culture of schools
  • Deeply integrated into two courses (EDUC 430 and EDUC 435)

Preparing for Field Experience

This information is intended to assist our Pre-Service Teachers in advance of their Field Experience I Placement.

Field I Practicum Dates

In Placement: October 10-20, 2023

Time Commitment: Full-time, Monday-Friday participation is required. 

Length of placement: 2 weeks

Review the Police Information Check (PIC) Requirement

A current, clear Police Information Check (PIC), including a Vulnerable Sector search, is required of all students participating in field experience. Your PIC must be obtained after July 1, 2023 for 2023/2024 Field Experience.

Obtain and Present your PIC

After obtaining your PIC, you are required to present your PIC to the UPE Field Experience team by August 24, and again to your placement site, on your first day of field experience.
