Field Experience I and II placements are based on your Community-Based application address. We rely on your Placement Information Form submission to confirm your placement preferences.

Participating in Field Experience I, Fall 2023?

If you are a Community-Based student participating in Field Experience I (EDUC 440) in Fall 2023, you have the following action items: 

Register in EDUC 440 & 430

Register in both EDUC 440 and EDUC 430. See below for more details.

Complete the Field Experience Placement Information Form

UPE Field Experience will invite you to complete the Placement Information Form in May/June 2023. This form is required as the information you provide informs our recruitment process.

Present a Police Information Check

Obtain and present your Police Information Check after July 1, 2023.

More information will be provided via email in June.

EDUC 430 - Pragmatics of Learning and Teaching

Enrol based on geographic location**:

  • Section 30: Students residing in communities North of Edmonton. 
  • Section 31: Students residing in communities in Central Alberta, between Calgary and Edmonton, including those in Canmore and Banff. We recommend students in Lloydminster select section 31. 
  • Section 32: Students residing in communities South of Calgary or Out-of-Province (outside of Alberta).

**If the appropriate section is full, please enrol in the section with space. This will not impact your Field Experience placement location. 

EDUC 440 – Field Experience I

Please register in EDUC 440, Field Experience I - Lab B99. All students will register in Lab B99, and will later be moved to the appropriate section based on section selections for EDUC 430.

Your Field Experience I Placement: Your placement school will be based on your Application Address and your Placement Information Form submission: you will be invited to submit this information in May/June. Please watch for emails from UPE Field Experience (upefield@ucalgary.ca).

The Field Experience team uses the information collected through the Placement Information Form to determine your preferences, ineligible sites, potential conflicts of interest, residential address during Field Experience and access to a vehicle or public transportation.
