Canadian Members of Parliament tour Qatar campus

Earlier this week, members from the Canadian Parliament made their way to the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) where they toured labs, met with faculty and talked with students.

The visiting delegation included the Senator Percy Downe, Senator Dennis Dawson, MP Ziad Aboultaif and MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor.

During their visit at UCQ, they learned more about the programs currently offered at the branch campus and how a Canadian institution within Qatar is at the forefront of advancing knowledge and skills for the local community.

Speaking and observing UCQ students, the party also heard about the students’ motivation for pursing a nursing education in Qatar and how they plan to take their journey at UCQ into the real world of nursing.

“I am very excited we had the chance to showcase our hard-working faculty and students and the work we do in educating the next generation of nurses for Qatar," says Kim Critchley, dean and CEO of UCQ. "The health-care knowledge and skills developed through UCQ are of great value benefiting the community and nation as a whole."

With approximately 550 students currently enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs, UCQ remains the only institution providing a nursing education in Qatar.

To date, UCQ has more than 230 graduates that are contributing within, and beyond, the nursing profession and this number is set to grow this coming convocation in May 2016.
