Our Research

In an era of global mobility and digital connection, literacy is more than reading and writing—it's a multifaceted tool for navigating culture, power, and identity. The Transliteracies Lab is dedicated to mapping this new terrain.

Our research is a collaborative process. By working within communities and employing methods like film production, arts-based interventions, and workshop-as-research, we turn abstract ideas into lived experiences. We focus on the dynamics of critical, racial, and faith-based literacies to understand how they can both reinforce and dismantle systemic barriers. This allows us to study how literacies are lived and to actively help reimagine their role in building a just society
