Office of Teaching and Learning

This program provides supports for graduate students and post-doctoral scholars interested in developing skills to serve as teaching assistants. Participants attend four workshops with the Office of Teaching and Learning, four workshops with the Taylor Institute and observe two classroom sessions. Those completing the program receive a microcredential and a digital badge for their curricular record.

In recent years, the Werklund School of Education has supported research by its instructors in teaching and learning practices and research. Many of these instructors have shared the results of their practice and research in the form of brief, peer-reviewed articles called vignettes. These vignettes have been published in the PRISM repository through the university library, to access this research visit the link below and if you wish to contribute a vignette, email us at tandl@ucalgary.ca.

We provide instructors and teaching assistants tools and resources addressing a wide range of aspects of instruction.  In addition, the eLearn page with the university has guidance on the use of many of the technologies that the university supports campus-wide.

Men who teach are always valued AND vulnerable. Dr. Garry Jones, Werklund sessional instructor, leads a 5-part series about, and for, men in teaching. Drawing on extensive research, invited guests and personal experience, he will lead participants through conversations about the complex lives of male teachers, with a focus on elementary and early childhood teachers.

The Office of Teaching and Learning supports Werklund instructors in instructional design and use of technology to enhance online or on-campus teaching.  We also support the recognition of teaching excellence and research into the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). We look forward to supporting you with your needs whether in your research, your teaching practice or applications for awards and grants.

The Office of Teaching and Learning and is part of the Academic Support Offices in the Werklund School of Education.  We share space with the Office of Research and the Office of Internationalization.
