Regular Students
Applications to graduate degree programs in the Werklund School of Education will open on the date indicated on the program page. For more detailed information regarding admission requirements please visit the program page. Please note, applications to our programs are submitted online only.
You will receive notification in writing from the Werklund School as soon as possible after a decision regarding admissibility is reached, normally 10-12 weeks after the application deadline date.
Out of Program Students
Apply as an out of program student if you are a student who wishes to engage in course work and\or research at the graduate level at the University of Calgary, but you have not been admitted to a program leading to a degree or diploma at the University of Calgary.
After reading the information provided on the right and completing all applicable forms, please contact Angie Crowley, Manager of Graduate Programs in Education.
After you have received confirmation of your application and are issued a student ID number, review courses of interest in the Graduate Calendar. Once you have selected your courses, contact Angie Crowley in the graduate programs office to inquire about specific course availability.
If you're completing degree requirements at another university, you can apply as a visiting student to complete academic work at the UCalgary.
As a graduate student at the University of Calgary, you may wish to take a course offered at another institution to be used as credit towards your University of Calgary degree.

The University of Calgary does not typically provide a waiver or a discount on the initial application fee. The application fee is $125 CAD for students with Canadian credentials or $145 CAD for students with international credentials.
All current tuition and fees are outlined in the Graduate Calendar. Tuition can change yearly, so check back regularly.
- Tuition fees are assessed yearly for thesis-based students and per course for course-based students.
- All students must also pay general fees, which are assessed annually or by semester, depending on the fee. You may be able to opt out of or waive some general fees if suitable paperwork is provided.

Funding
The Werklund School of Education offers funding opportunities for full-time MA and MSc students during their first two years in the program, and for full-time doctoral students in the on-campus program during their first four years.
Awards
Scholarships from a variety of sources, including private donors and the Government of Canada, are available to international and domestic graduate students. Applicants and students are encouraged to apply for internal and external scholarships.
As of January 22, 2024, many international students have required a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) to apply for a study permit. Beginning January 2025, more groups of international students will require a PAL, including students in graduate degree-granting programs
