Our thoughts are with the people of La Loche, Saskatchewan

La Loche, Saskatchewan

The Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary is greatly saddened to learn of the tragedy that the people of La Loche and the Clearwater River Dene Nation have recently experienced.

We sincerely extend our condolences to the children, parents, teachers, leaders, Elders and citizens of these communities – the loss is great. It is unfortunate that such sorrow is placed upon your hearts and lives, and that a community building that symbolizes learning, promise and hope now carries images of pain and fear.

It is in community, local and beyond, that you will get through this, and the school, town and Nation will once again rise, be resilient, and strong.

Our hope is for your healing.

With respect and love.
