Author Biography (Strong Nations): Rosemarie Avrana Meyok was born in a small Hudson Bay post on Reid Island, Northwest Territories, and now lives in Kugluktuk, Nunavut. She studied as a teacher in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, and worked as an Inuinnaqtun teacher and program specialist, developing Inuktut teaching resources for the Nunavut Department of Education. She went on to study linguistics at the University of Western Ontario and the University of New Mexico. She has worked as a language researcher and translator. Rosemarie has four children (two of whom were adopted to her sister through custom adoption), twenty grandchildren, and more than ten great-grandchildren. Rosemarie loves to sew, bead, and design traditional and contemporary clothing. She spends as much time as she can out on the land with her large family. Author Biography (Michelle Simpson Illustration):
Michelle Simpson is a full-time professional illustrator. She has illustrated over 20 children’s books and has worked with a large number of publishing companies. Some notable/recent publications include The Dancing Trees by Masiana Kelly (Inhabit Media), Genie Meanie by Mahtab Narsimhan (Orca Books), Secrets of the Desert by Hawys Morgan (HarperCollins Publishers). Michelle has also worked as a concept artist at KeyFrame Animation for kids cartoons such as Ollie: The Boy Who Became What He Ate (season 2) and Tee and Mo (season 1). Michelle learned her craft at Sheridan College graduating with a BAA in Illustration in 2014. She has been drawing ever since she can remember; her dream was always to become an illustrator. Some clients include Disney-Pixar (Pi Kids), Chirp, Chickadee Magazine (Owl Kids), Capstone, Harper Collins, Maverick, Igloo, MacMillan, Magination Press, Scholastic, Oxford University Press, Orca Books, Inhabit Education, Brandylane, Highlights Magazine, Kayak Kids, Cambridge University Press and many more!
