Winter 2020 CR/F FAQs

I have requested a CR/F grade for a Winter 2020 course. I want to know:

How a CR/F differs from the regular grading scale?

CR stands for 'Credit Received', and does not have an associated 'weight' or GPA value, unlike a letter grade. You will still receive the credit/units associated with successful completion of the course.

Does a CR still meet prerequisites/admission/degree requirements?

Yes, classes for which you have received a CR still meet prerequisite/admission/degree requirements.

What if I got an F?

You cannot opt to change an F grade to a CR, but, like a CR, it will have no GPA-associated value, or weight. However, the F will still appear on your transcript, indicating a fail. For EDUC courses, successful completion regulations still apply, Ie, If you received an F, you will be required to repeat the course when next offered before progressing into subsequent EDUC terms. If this a second EDUC F, our team will be in contact regarding program implications.

Will my original grade appear anywhere if I opted to take a CR?

No: both your student record and transcript will only reflect your CR grade.

How does a CR affect my academic review?

Education student standing is reviewed after each Winter term, with GPA being calculated on all courses taken since the previous review (or admission). We require a minimum of 18.00 units to conduct a review: CR/F graded courses will be used towards the overall total for units required, but will not affect the GPA calculation (again, being unweighted).

How does a CR affect my Fall 2020 Change of Program application?

Due to competitive demand for Education programs, Change of Program GPA calculations are initially evaluated based on Fall-back grades, requiring a minimum of 12.00 units, and up to a maximum of 30.00 units. For a 2020 intake, this means applicants were initially reviewed on a Fall 2019-back GPA calculation. If there are seats remaining in the program, a Winter 2020-back GPA calculation may be conducted. Unweighted CR grades will not be used in this GPA calculation. Instead, we will go back to prior terms to utilize the highest weighted letter grades, up to the maximum of 30.00 units, when available.

What about upcoming terms? Can I opt for a CR/F?

The CR/F opt-in scale is only available for Winter 2020 courses. This will not be available as of Spring 2020, moving forward.
