Self-Directed Experiential Learning Framework (SELF)

The Self-Directed Experiential Learning Framework (SELF) program recognizes and enhances the paid and volunteer work that BEd students are engaged in outside of the Werklund School of Education. Using guided reflection prompts and synchronous check-in sessions, students in education-related roles can meaningfully connect their external experience to the theory and practice covered in their degree program. This comprehensive reflection process will further develop their growth and skill sets as an educator.

SELF program participants will:

  • Complete the initial program registration on Elevate
  • Attend or complete five reflection sessions or reflection prompts
    • At least two of the five reflection activities should be completed by attending the Experiential Learning Check-In Sessions below
  • Send an information package about participating in the SELF program to their supervisor
  • Track their hours & submit at the end of the program
  • Complete the final reflection and program survey

Once all components of the program are complete, experience in the SELF program will be recognized by a certificate of completion.
