Criteria for opportunities and roles eligible to be included in the SELF program:
- Can be volunteer or paid
- Must occur during the Fall/Winter of the current academic year that you are registered in the SELF program. This is to support real time reflection of experiences while in the program.
- Needs to be at least 2 hours per week (or 20 hours a semester) of participation
- Must be connected in some way to education and/or achieving your goals as an educator
- Must have a direct supervisor/manager/coordinator. The supervisor must be open to students using their role to participate in this program.
Examples of eligible opportunities:
- Volunteering in an area of need identified by your community
- Volunteering at a non-profit for children & youth
- Working as a Sunday school teacher
- Working as an EA
Opportunities that are not included in the SELF program:
- Working as a K-12 teacher while taking BEd courses
- Programs delivered through or by the Werklund School of Education
- These opportunities are already recognized by the school
- High risk, unpaid opportunities
- Roles that are under 20 hours of participation per semester
- Programs that have taken place in the past or outside of the current academic year
- Conferences, workshops, interpretive programs that are not at least 20 hours and do not have a direct supervisor
