Literacy and Numeracy Support Logistics

What's Involved

With English instruction in elementary and junior high as well as late and early French immersion programs at the junior high level, pre-service teachers get the opportunity to learn about the curriculum, students’ needs, and the approaches and strategies that are used to strengthen the literacy and numeracy skills of our students

  • Pre-Service teachers will assist K-9 students with their learning in a classroom setting
  • Interventions will focus on the development of numeracy and literacy skills in English and/or French

Requirements

  • Pre-service teachers need a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (issued after July 1, 2021). Students who do not already have a police check should begin this process at their local police station as soon as possible, as police checks often take 4-6 weeks to process.

  • Examine how programs develop students’ literacies (reading, writing, numeracy, digital, etc.).
  • Gain experience working with youth in a classroom setting.
  • Gain experience working with youth in a small group setting.
