Werklund Community Engaged Leadership Scholarship




April 15, 2019, 4.00pm MST


  • Up to six scholarships are awarded
  • Awards are based on academic merit and extracurricular activities demonstrating community service, volunteerism, or leadership
  • Scholarships are distributed to recipients throughout the Bachelor of Education program, provided the recipient maintains a normal full course load (of 30 units or more), and a minimum GPA of 3.20 in the preceding Fall and Winter terms. It is the University‚Äôs expectation that recipients will continue their involvement in activities outside the classroom

Application Details

  • A cover page (a template will be sent to students via email), including your full name, UCID number, email address, and the route and teachable subject area applied for
  • A completed Community Engaged Leadership Volunteer Experience Form (provided via email)
  • A one page statement that describes how the applicant's unpaid volunteer community engagement has influenced and informed their thinking about entering the field of Education, at a max of 500 words
  • A letter of reference from the organization or community group demonstrating their participation and commitment
  • All documents must be submitted in one package, titled 'yourlastname.yourfirstname' (Ie, Smith.John), in Word or PDF to upe@ucalgary.ca

French Cohort Scholarship




During the French Proficiency Interviews


  • One scholarship will be awarded to an incoming Bachelor of Education student who has applied to the After-Degree with a French teachable
  • Applicants should present evidence of interest to effectively teach French as demonstrated to the faculty's French proficiency interviewers

Application Details

  • No application is required. During the French Proficiency Interview, applicants will be asked to describe why they want to teach French
  • The French proficiency interviewers, a subset of the French cohort instructors, will provide recommendations to the Undergraduate Programs in Education Scholarship Committee
